Ouch, This Text from My Mother-in-Law Yesterday

My first thought: light therapy (have you tried it?)

Table of Contents

My mother-in-law texted our group chat this morning:

“What a way to start the day. I slipped getting out of the garage and broke my ankle.”

An injury like this is bad enough on an ordinary month. But it’s no ordinary month because we all are set to leave in two weeks for a destination wedding (her son’s, in fact) in Florida.

Next Thursday she goes in for surgery. She’s in a ton of pain right now.

My first thought? Light therapy.

Which she hadn’t heard of before.

“We show that LLLT plays an important role in augmenting bone tissue formation, which is relevant to fracture healing.”

I’m not sure if she’ll use light therapy as a treatment or not, but a device I like to recommend for this type of thing is Photizo Pain Relief (affiliate link). It’s not cheap, but it’s another one of those products that you’ll have for the long haul — an investment in a future where you do your best to avoid injuries, but where accidents, like an unexpected ankle break, do happen.

Auricular Acupressure: Effective Relief for Postpartum Depression and Blues

Postpartum blues, often characterized by emotional instability, anxiety, fatigue, and other symptoms, typically emerges three to four days after childbirth. If not addressed, it can evolve into postpartum depression, a more severe mental health condition marked by depression, sleep and appetite disorders, and even suicidal thoughts.

A study published last month explored the effectiveness of auricular acupressure as a non-medical intervention to prevent the escalation of postpartum blues into depression.2 The research, which used a quantitative one-group pretest-posttest design, found that auricular acupressure not only helps in reducing postnatal sadness and depression but also alleviates maternal fatigue and fosters better mother-infant bonding shortly after birth.

By addressing postpartum blues early through auricular acupressure, there is potential to improve maternal mental health and overall well-being, offering a promising alternative to conventional treatments which may have undesirable side effects during breastfeeding.

Revolutionizing Traditional Medicine: AI Enhances Acupuncture Precision and Learning

Acupuncture is experiencing a transformative integration with modern AI technologies, redefining its application and efficacy. This synergy aims to enhance the precision of acupuncture treatments, from diagnosis to therapy.

Recent studies have harnessed AI to improve acupoint diagnosis, utilizing large-scale data analysis to identify and categorize acupoints based on their therapeutic impacts.3 Furthermore, AI's capability to track and adjust to physiological responses in real-time during treatments promises a more personalized and effective approach to acupuncture, potentially increasing treatment success rates.

The integration of AI not only refines the process of selecting and evaluating acupoints but also extends to the educational realm of acupuncture, offering a data-driven, highly accurate teaching aid that could revolutionize how practitioners learn and apply acupuncture techniques. Advanced AI algorithms assist in the interpretation of complex medical and health data, enabling the identification of nuanced treatment strategies that are tailored to individual patient needs. This approach is anticipated to improve patient outcomes, streamline acupuncture practices, and offer a richer, more effective therapeutic experience.

As AI continues to evolve, its integration into the acupuncture field promises to marry ancient healing wisdom with cutting-edge technology, opening new avenues for health innovation and therapy.
